Network Configuration

This page outlines the simple steps required to configure akkOmi to retrieve its settings from a central location.

The advantages of running akkOmi in this manner is that all users of akkOmi on your network will automatically have the same:

  • Font size and family
  • Address (on the face of the reports)
  • Standard paragraph texts
  • Report definitions and account code mappings

Of course you can configure these settings to be the same on each machine manually, but by following the steps below all your akkOmi users will automatically be updated whenever the 'master configuration' changes on the server.

Please note that akkOmi must still be installed on each client PC.

Step 1 - Decide on your Configuration

First choose a PC on which akkOmi is installed and launch akkOmi on this machine. We will use this to make the necessary configuration before copying this data to the server.

Simple Configuration

Simple configuration, for example choosing your accounts production software or editing the name and address of your practice, can be done directly in akkOmi. This is illustrated below.

Once you have made any necessary changes here close akkOmi (this will ensure the changes are saved).

Advanced Configuration

If you wish to configure advanced features, such as the standard paragraph text used, you should locate akkOmi's installation files on your PC. Typically these will be located at:
C:\Program Files\Industrial CodeBox Ltd\akkOmi\

All the configuration information for akkOmi is then contained in files within the three highlighted folders shown below.

You can edit these files in a text editor such as Notepad. Please contact us if you would like further support on this.

Step 2 - Copy Configuration Files to Server

The next step is to copy the three configuration folders noted above to a fileshare on your server. All users of akkOmi on your network will need read access to this file share. So in our example we copy the folders highlighted in the previous screen shot to the location below:

Step 3 - Configure All Clients

The final step is to go to each PC with akkOmi installed, launch akkOmi and then on the Advanced tab enter the file share path from the previous step, as illustrated below.

Once you have done this you should close and relaunch akkOmi to ensure that the changes have been saved.

Step 4 - Relax!

There is no step 4 - You should now find that each time you launch akkOmi it copies and utilises the latest set of files from the server.

If for some reason you are not connected to the network (perhaps you are working away with your laptop), akkOmi will simply use the last set of configuration file it copied from the server.
